About the Author

Erik D. Goodwyn, M.D., is assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and director of psychotherapy training at the University of Louisville, USA. He was an officer in the Air Force for seven years, during which time he cared for patients from both military and civilian backgrounds. He has published articles in the fields of psychology of religion, psychodynamic theory and spirituality in mental health, and his previous books include The Neurobiology of the Gods (Routledge, 2012) and, with Susan Greenwood, Magical Consciousness: An Anthropological and Neurobiological Approach (Routledge, 2016) .

Valuable Employees Through STEM

As a business professional and leadership consultant, it is great to see how STEM BY DESIGN is helping teachers to prepare students to work in the real world after school. In the past, graduates entering into the workforce may have had the full understanding of each of the four independent subjects but they had no idea how to apply the knowledge of the four subjects to solve real world problems.

I believe STEM BY DESIGN will be a "gold mine" for any educator looking for a resource to help teach the students in Grades 4-8 the interwoven, integrated subjects of STEM.

Finally a STEM resource written in teacher-speak with doable ideas for building a strong STEM classroom! Anne Jolly takes the reader from the What and Why's of STEM right into the basics of choosing effective STEM lessons (did you know that a STEM lesson differs from a science lesson?), and analyzing STEM lessons that are right for you and your students, to designing and assessing your own STEM lessons. Included in the book are ready-to-implement checklists, activities, assessments and authentic links to valid resources. This book is user-friendly and a simple guide to help teachers blend STEM lessons into their science and mathematics course of study.

As a former STEM classroom teacher who now works as a STEM lesson developer and writer, I am proud to say that Anne Jolly is and will continue to be a leader of STEM implementation in classrooms throughout the country. About the Author

Thomas Jonter is Director of Stockholm University Graduate School of International Studies, Sweden, and Professor of International Relations at the Department of Economic History. He has been visiting scholar at Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Stanford University, and Cornell University. Professor Jonter is also chair of Swedish Pugwash and served as advisor to the Swedish delegation to the 2015 Review Conference to the Treaty on the Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, at the United Nations in New York.
