Chance "scored big" with this one!

Here is the most honest, reliable, trustworthy review you will get about this book. Ladies and gents, you cannot possibly go wrong with Chance’s Composing Music for Games: The Art, Technology and Business of Video Game Scoring. And I am here to tell you why.

The book encloses invaluable information about a business that many have to often walk into with a thousand questions and very little answers. The text, its simple-to-follow format, numerous references, and knowledge-enhancing visuals complete the perfect formula for not only incorporating rich and incredible information, but ensuring that the reader’s focus never shifts.

It follows a “textbook” adaptability while simultaneously being a great read like any casual reading book, and not feeling like you’re simply collecting ideas, but rather understanding how to employ them in the real world. The book enables readers to understand the different techniques, styles, terminologies and situations found in today’s video game scoring business by enabling the interpreter to critically follow and analyze what’s being learned.

The book does a great job at adapting to how the business has (and continues) to move. The inclusion of extra references and links enhance the capabilities of what you can get form the text by itself, and expand the learning experience; all part of keeping future composers engaged and immersed in continuous knowledge.

Lastly, I’d like to say that one of the best things about the book is how much more “approachable” it makes a career as a video game composer look. Although it clearly shows how much work it is, it also shows a “human” side, if you will, by sharing many comments, ideas and approaches from multiple composers, and I can tell this inspires me a lot, along with many other great things about the book, to pursue my dream.

For anyone who wants to be in the business, work along the business, simply understand the business or just needs something interesting to read--this book is a “two-thumbs-up”.

this is the greatest book that I had read hands down

"The Bible of Video Game Music Composition, Lifestyle and Business".
Inside of "Composing Music for Games" Chance Thomas simply destroys wrong theories, principles, and composing styles and brings to life the same but the "RIGHT WAY".
"Chapter 0" is the most profound material I have read on the subject. This chapter 0 is the foundation (if you will). Chance Thomas laid the concrete to my career in this chapter to point I literally had tears in my eyes. After years and years of looking, cold-emailing, and listening to professionals talk AROUND how to succeed.
The chapters just don't allow you to read them. They challenge you, they ask you questions. It made me rethink my whole compositional approach because Chance gives you the "secrets" literally.
In conclusion, this is the greatest book that I had read hands down. I have read "A Composer's Guide to Game Music", "The Craft of Music Composition", and many more. They don't even come close. THEY DON'T COME CLOSE! If you do not let Chance's words guide you threw this game music world that we composer live in "You will be Lost".
And he is a "GREAT GUY".

Classy book from Classy man! Great book.

I've had the pleasure to meet Chance Thomas last year when this book was about to be published. After ordering it, I've read through carefully the first few chapters and am very inspired by his instructions. Besides the inspiring language in the book, there are plenty of extra content like side bubbles of interviews from other composers that are related to the topic at hand. Not only that, there is a website (under contruction) that includes listening examples and videos. He lays out the book in several sections from Principles, Process, Business, Evolution and Appendages. I highly recommend it!
